Harvey Franklin Yergin Jr., born February 23, 1941, at 12:30 P.M., escaped the surly bonds of Earth on July 24, 2022, with his family by his side, to join his parents, Harvey Franklin Yergin Sr. and Grace Lucille (Koerschner), sister Patricia Spencer, great grandson Oliver Paul Coldiron and mother-in-law Estelle Rita Pillar, in the life that lies beyond this domain.
Harvey was a graduate of Akron Garfield High School, Class of 1959 and was a Navy veteran serving on the USS Ajax from 1959 – 1963. He was employed by the Ruhlin Company, Hess Construction and The Velotta Company prior to retiring in 2006. Harvey was a member of Werner United Methodist Church.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 23 years, “The Princess of Pleasantness”, Marian Pillar, father-in-law Michael Pillar, son Harvey Franklin III (Carrie), daughters Kelly Van Scyoc and Kathy (Dave) Pickering; grandchildren, Harvey Franklin IV (Amie), Phillip Austin (Stacey), Seth Erik (Vanessa) and Micah James (Brittany) Yergin, Sydney Grace and Ashley Rose Van Scyoc, Alexis Francis (Jason) Coldiron and David Michael Pickering II; great grandchildren, Brinley Kay, Harvey Franklin V, Clara June, Austin Henry and Alton Payne Yergin, Memphis Oliver Coldiron, David Michael III and Madalayna Addyson Pickering; brothers-in-law, Stan Spencer, Mark (MiCha), Miles (Kathy), Matthew (Julie), and Mitchell (Lori) Pillar and sister-in-law Michele (William) Killian; nephews Rick (Wes) Lewis, Michael (Jessica) Pillar, Billy, Dan and Joe Killian, Alec and Nathan Pillar; and nieces Gail (Greg) Carmen, Julie (Brian) Meekin and Bebe Pillar. Last but not least, his two cats Sissy Bear and Moon Beam “Beamer” and his beagle buddies, Barney and Stevie Jo.
He enjoyed a successful career in highway construction and after retirement spent many days on the golf course. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family whom he loved dearly.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful people at Mulberry Gardens Memory Care for the care they provided over the last several months, and Crossroads Hospice for the time spent with him during his final days.
Funeral services will be Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 1:00PM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240, with Pastor Jim Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 12:00-1:00PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
In leu of flowers the family suggests donations to The Haven of Rest, The Alzheimer’s Association, Werner United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
