Hazel B. Shea, 93, of Wilson, NC and formally of Rootstown, died Sunday, August 10, at home.
She was born November 8, 1920 in Tuppers Plains to Henry and Ethel (Boles) Linthicum. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Tallmadge. During WWII, Hazel worked at Goodyear Aircraft, building B-25 and B-29 bombers. She was a "Rosie the Riveter." She always down played her role by explaining it had to be done and women had to do their part for the war.
She enjoyed gardening and loved preserving her produce; applesauce, ketchup and strawberry jam are all remembered fondly. She loved growing flowers, particularly roses. She especially enjoyed working puzzles, and playing games with the kids; a favorite pastime on Sunday evenings.
She is survived by her daughters, Patty (Stewart) Abbott of Franklin, TN, Deborah (Richard) Jones of Akron, Shirley Shea of Wilson, NC, and Linda (Mark) Urban of Akron; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard in 2003; two brothers; and three sisters.
Calling hours will be 5-8 pm on Friday, Aug 15th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent where funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, Aug 16th with Rev. Bernard Christy officiating. Burial will be held at Grandview Memorial Park.
