Ira Lou Fields, 87, of Kent, transitioned from labor to reward, Friday March 12, 2010. She was born in Coy Alabama, on December 9, 1922 to the late Rev. Henry Lee Perryman Sr. & Irene Brooks-Perryman. She was the last surviving daughter of this union. She leaves a legacy, a true testimony, of unconditional love, unwavering compassion, and a resolute faith that speaks of what it means to "Love the Lord with your whole heart, and love ye one another"�½.this biblical word was what she lived for and who she was. This precious 'Woman of God" touched the hearts of many and our lives have been forever changed in knowing her. The Joy of the Lord was her strength�½Mother Fields was a Kent resident for 50 years. She attended Tuskegee Institute of Alabama and Pittsburgh University. She was employed at Kent State University for 23 years, from which she retired in 1990; Union Secretary for AFSCME; Crossing Guard for Kent City Schools and a Kent City Democratic Poll Worker for 15 years. She enjoyed attending the lunches at Kent Social Services and the many friends that were made brightened her life in many ways. Ira was a committed member of Union Baptist Church. She was a Mother of the Church; Choir Member, former Sunday School Teacher, acted as church custodian and she was a Prayer Warrior. She loved her church and her life's desire was to be a true servant in whatever capacity God chose for her. To cherish her memory, she leaves son, Robin Turner of Kent; stepson, Bubba (Jan) Greenriver of Heath; 8 step grandchildren; brothers, H. L. (Eunice) Perryman Jr. of Cleveland and Rev. Lindbergh Hoover (Claudia) Perryman of Columbus; sisters in law, Johnnie Daniels of San Francisco, CA, and Gladys Perryman of Al; special niece, Yatunda (Irene) Primm of Akron; special friends, Felice Bozeman and Ms. Arnedia Trotter of Kent and P. Ken Howe of Rootstown. Mother Fields also leaves a host of family and friends. She will be missed. Ira was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Eugene Fields; former husband, Arthur L. Turner Jr.; stepson, Davey Fields; brothers, Finis, Bill, James and Samuel Perryman; sisters, Leola P. Johnson, Bertha P. Carstarphen, Francis Clara P. Whitt and Malinda P. Ratcliffe. The Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, March 20th at Union Baptist Church, 240 Dodge St., Kent, with the Rev. Dr. Willie C. Watts officiating, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials contributions may made to the Union Baptist Church Building Fund, 240 Dodge St., Kent, OH 44240 or Kent Social Services Food Pantry, 1066 S. Water St., Kent, OH 44240. Bissler and Sons Funeral Home are handling the arrangements.
