Irene Bower of Kent, 89, passed away June 12th 2015 at The Gables of Kent Ridge in Kent, surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
She was born October 16, 1925 in Hudson, to John and Marta (Barbat) Soldorfen. She was the 7th of 10 children, born into a hardworking farm family. Over the years she enjoyed working at The Rusty Nail and The Twin Lakes Country Club and she was a member of St. Patrick Church in Kent. Her legacy is the strong, close family she nurtured with daily communication, Sunday family dinners and unconditional love.
She is survived by sons, Denny (Pat) Bower of Rootstown and Jeff (Lani) Bower of Kent; daughters, Ginger (Mitch) Murphy of Kent and Molly (Mark) Amick of Kent; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Vavra of Bedford and Martha Soldorfen of Stow; sister-in-law, Judy Soldorfen of Ravenna. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Bower; sisters, Mary Wolner, Sophie Santovin, Betty Gloden, Anna Riera, Jean Roman; brothers, Jay Soldorfen and George Soldorfen.
Calling hours will be held 6-8 PM Tuesday, June 16th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 17th at St. Patrick Church. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gables of Kent Ridge Activities Fund, 5241 Sunnybrook Road, Kent, OH 44240 or to Clear Path Hospice, 475 Wolf Ledges Road, Akron, OH 44311. Both organizations gave extraordinary support and loving care to our family and to our mother.
