“United with the love of his life once again.”
James “Jim” Harold Brawley, 84, of Salem, passed away at his home, in the company of his loving family, on Monday, June 26th 2023. He was born in Durst, Georgia to John Harrison and Ethel Mae Brawley. He moved to Kent as a young boy, graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School with the class of 1957, and married his classmate and wife of 64 years, Janet L. (Apley) also of Kent.
Jim enjoyed working on his large farm tending to animals, crops, and fields. He loved tinkering with tractors and old cars and had a knack for woodworking. In 1976, he and his wife opened a restaurant in Salem, Ohio. He ran a successful business until his retirement in 2002. Those who worked with him remember him as a caring and generous employer who could bring an immediate smile with his light hearted orneriness.
Jim will forever be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and incredible sense of humor. He was a devoted provider and protector of his family and adored his wife who passed two years prior. He enjoyed gatherings with friends and classmates and looked forward to Christmas as his favorite time of the year.
Jim is survived by his sister Ida Mae Damanic; his children, Lou Ann (Bob) McCracken of Salem, Melinda (William) Penfold of Salem, Jamie Brawley of Newton Falls, Cynthia (JK) Brawley of Canton; and grandchildren, Miah (Tom) Wang, Maddie (Nick) Clark, and Lily Brawley.
Graveside services will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent, Ohio on Saturday July 8th, 2023 at 1:00PM. All are welcome.
Jim Brawley, you are one of a kind. We find comfort in knowing you are once again united with the love of your life.
