James Dennis Hogan Sr.

November 3, 1940 — November 25, 2021

Aurora

James Dennis Hogan, Sr., 81, of Aurora, Ohio, formerly of Twin Lakes and Pittsburgh, died Thursday, November 25, 2021, surrounded by family at his home.

Dennis was born on November 3, 1940 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey to the late Albert Schofield and Elizabeth (Apgar) Hogan.

He graduated from Glen Ridge High School and Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, class of 1962. He enjoyed a varied and successful career, from an almost 20-year tenure in the marketing department at Koppers, an international chemical and materials company, to his final work as an independent consultant in human resources with Resource Providers, Inc. Dennis was a lifelong and frustrated fan of Detroit sports teams, an avid golfer who was proud of his two holes-in-one, a wordsmith and puzzle lover, and a font of knowledge on an impressive array of topics. He loved dogs, observing the wildlife around him, and puttering about his garden. He was a natural with children. He enjoyed starting the days with his newspaper and crossword puzzle and winding down with Kathy at cocktail hour. He faced his final days as he did his life, with dignity, humor, and grace. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of more than 38 years, Kathleen Smith Cost Hogan, his brother Albert S. Hogan, Jr. (Betty); his sister-in-law Shirley Hogan; his children, Beth (Brad) Hansen, James Dennis Hogan, Jr., Molly (Kurt Schneider) Hogan, Ellen (Jon) Elsen, and Sarah (Dennis) Shoemaker ; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Margaret (Beeghly) Hogan; his brother Richard A. Hogan; and a grandson, Timothy Schneider.

The family would like to express their gratitude to friend Ron Grams and to Hospice of the Western Reserve.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kent Social Services, 705 Oakwood Street, Suite 221, Ravenna, Ohio 44266.

Services in care of Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 628 West Main Street, Kent, OH 44240.
