Ray of sunshine and beloved son, Jamison “Jami” Floyd Rice (9 months) passed away peacefully on January 2, 2023, in the arms of Mallory Derbfuss and Jesse Rice, his parents.
Jami’s passing came after a long and difficult battle with Congenital Heart Disease. Through his journey Jamison became a pioneer in Pediatric Cardiology. A new method of open heart surgery was performed on him that only a handful of people in the world received. Jamison provided knowledge that will help countless children with complex heart conditions.
Throughout his struggles Jamison is most remembered for continually smiling, always being vigilant and constantly babbling to anyone who would listen. Many people when looking into his eyes described a depth and soulfulness beyond his age.
In his young life he taught us a new understanding of love, restored faith, and showed us how to be strong when facing great tribulation. He shared with us just how much every breath matters and what gratitude truly means. Jami forever will be loved and remembered.
Our family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, surgeons and staff of the Cleveland Clinic Cardiac ICU and step down, for their incredible care provided to Jamison and the entire family. Additionally, we cannot express our appreciation enough for the outpouring of prayers and thoughtfulness extended to us during this time.
