Jane E. Auld of Kent, Ohio, died August 5, she was 79. Jane was the only daughter of Dr. William S. and Bernice Cole Evans of Smithfield, Ohio. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Thomas, and children, Evan Thomas of Kent, Caitlin Jane Livingston, (Geoff) of Arlington, Virginia and one granddaughter, Soleil Maya Livingston with whom she shared the same birthday.
Jane was a graduated from Kent State University with dual master's degrees in Education and Special Education. She was a teacher to the deaf in Toledo, Ohio in the late 19605. From the late 1970s until her retirement in 2005, Jane taught special education and learning disabled students in Kent, Windham and Ravenna, Ohio school systems.
She joined the Gamma Kappa chapter of Delta Zeta sorority while an undergraduate at Kent State University in the late 1950's. Active with the alumni chapter of DZ for many years, Jane served on the executive board of House Corporation when the Gamma Kappa chapter built its current chapter house at Kent State.
Jane was an avid, successful gardener and a member of the Portage County Gardeners and the Evening Herb Guild for more than 25 years. She chaired the PCG summer garden show and competition for nearly a decade. Jane received numerous awards for her personal garden with the community garden program located at Beckwith Orchard in Brady Lake.
The family extends their gratitude and appreciation to the staff on 2 West at Western Reserve Hospital for the excellent care Jane received while a patient there and the staff at the Willows Unit of The Gables at Kentridge.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a time and location to be announced. Jane will be buried with her parents at the Northern Cemetery in Smithfield, Ohio.
