Janice John, 99, of Kent, passed away peacefully at home, Monday September 10, 2018.
She was known to family and friends as "Grad," pronounced "Grahd," a name given by her granddaughter Cindy learning to say grandma. This affectionate name for Janice has remained for 40 years.
She was born June 25, 1919 in Akron to George W. and Katie Doll (Hood) Koons.
Janice was a graduate of Stow High School, class of 1938. She received her Master's in Education from Kent State University. Janice was an elementary school teacher for 25 years in Streetsboro and Stow. She was a longtime member of Kent First Church of Christ, Scientist, where she served as �rst and second reader. After retiring from teaching she served as bookkeeper at Hood and Hoover Jewelry. She was a member of Ohio Retired Teacher Association, National Education Association, Summit County Retired Teachers Association, Portage County Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by her son Richard G. John of Kent; granddaughter, Cindy Rebecca Toole of St. Augustine, FL; grandson, Michael (Jessica) John of Waynesville, N.C; great grandchildren, Chelsea Toole, Lindsey Ring, Lauren John and Mike John.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy W. John, and son, Gerald W. John.
For twenty years Janice endured failing health but her cheerful nature and strong faith became an inspiration to all that knew her. She touched the lives of many students, family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday October 6th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, 628 West Main Street in Kent, where Family and friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
