Jean A. Nagy, 91, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2016. She was born February 22, 1925 in Copley to Aaron and Grace (Biery) Cowling. Graduating from Mantua Center School in 1943, she married Michael Nagy on October 13, 1943. She moved to Oakland, CA where Michael served in the U.S. Coast Guard. They returned to Mantua, then settled in Kent where they raised six children. Jean graduated from Bohecker's Business School and worked at Portage National Bank and the Veterans Administration. She attended churches in Mantua, Ravenna, and was a member of the First Christian Church in Kent for 70 years. She was a Den Mother when the boys were in Scouts. She taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed sewing patchwork blankets and crocheting Afghans for the family. She loved baking especially cookies for her children and grandchildren. She bowled, played pinochle, and liked to travel. She had many friends and family that received letters and cards from Jean, never forgetting a birthday. She enjoyed being with family for holidays and birthday partied for grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Melvin Cowling and Russell Cowling; husband of 66 years, Michael Nagy; and son, Gene Nagy. Survived by children, Michael Nagy, Patricia Gundlach, David Nagy, Ronald Andrico, and Cynthia Lowther; grandchildren, Lori Young, Brian Nagy, Brittany Nagy, Greta Smith, Galen Andrico, Sarah Neri, Aaron R. Lowther, Justin Lowther, John Lowther, and Alison Wortman; and seventeen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, October 17th at First Christian Church with Rev. Julie Cory officiating. Private burial has been held at Standing Rock Cemetery.
