Lieutenant Colonel Jeane M. Wolcott, USA retired 89. Died on Monday, March 25, 2019. Jeane was born Sept. 20, 1929 in Kent, Ohio to Oliver and Dorothy Wolcott. Jeane graduated from Kent Roosevelt, H.S. and K.S.U.
Jeane enlisted in the army and rose from recruit to Master Sergeant then to Lieutenant Colonel. She served in Yokohama, Japan; Seoul, South Korea; Heidelberg Germany and state side.
Her service during a time when women were not recognized as leaders in the military was remarkable. She was very proud of her service and the path she helped to create for other women entering the military.
Jeane took up Flying, bought her first airplane, had Buffy her dog �ying with her and made many friends along the way. She was instrument rated pilot with over 10,000 hrs. �ying for personal pleasure, races, meetings, and �ying corporate lawyers to their hearings.
She was President of the All Ohio chapter of International 995 in 1976. Founder and President of Women With Wings a chapter of international 99s. She also headed up events to help with National Intercollegiate Flying Association, air markings of local general aviation airport, Powder Puff Derby, Kachina Doll Air Race, Buckeye Air Rally, and past Board Member of Portage County Airport. Her love for �ying was infections as was her humor!
Jeane was an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Ravenna.
Jeane (Jidge) will be remembered by her friends who cared about her like a sister, visited with her often and will miss her greatly: Sandy Gordley, Margaret Bryant, Connie McConnell, Kathy Samuelson, Sandy Dunlavy, Bev Hirzel and Special friend Al Hill.
Jeane is survived by her sister in law, Barbara Wolcott of San Luis Obispo, CA.; her nephews, Michael (Lynne) Wolcott of Watsonville, CA., Jeffery (Cindy) Wolcott of Niwot, Co. Jerry (Lori) Wolcott of Philomath, OR.; her nieces, Christine Wolcott of Los Osos, CA. Martha Kessler (Fred) of San Luis Obispo, CA; foster niece, Peggie Harris of Santa Clarita, CA; and many grandnieces and grandnephews and their children.
She is predeceased by her parents, Oliver and Dorothy Wolcott; brother, John Wolcott of San Luis Obispo, CA.; and her niece Diane Hubbard of Encinitas, CA.
Calling hours will be held 9:00 - 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, where funeral services will follow at 10:00 AM with Rev. Carol Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 250 W.
