Jessie Ruth (Adcock) BROWN, 93, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2010. She was born October 9, 1916 to Ethel and Stanley Adcock in Junction City, Ohio. She earned a 2-year teaching certificate from Ohio University in Athens and taught in Ohio and Mississippi. While raising 4 children and supporting her husband Glenn in his work in liquid crystals, she was actively involved in her community and church. Among her many activities, she was a Boy Scout den mother, a Girl Scout troop leader, Kappa Phi advisor, Ohio Parkinson Foundation Board member and United Methodist Women member and president. She loved to travel and saw much of the world in her travels with Glenn serving as a "goodwill ambassador" for our country and Kent State as she made friends and touched lives wherever she went. She loved music, was a Sweet Adeline for 24 years, and the washboard player in her Beavercreek church gospel group. Jessie always kept a positive attitude and a sense of humor. Her greatest joy was her family and she was our rock - a strong, wise, empathetic, and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be in our hearts forever. Jessie is preceded in death by her husband Glenn H. Brown and brother Carl and his wife Betty. She is survived by son, Larry and his wife Carol of Columbus; daughter, Nancy of Beavercreek; son, Don and wife Kate of Milford; daughter, Barb and husband Dave of Stow; three granddaughters, Megan, Abigail and Caitlin of Cincinnati; step granddaughter, Lori, of Cleveland; grand-dog Samantha; nephew, Fred Adcock and his wife Nellie of Marblehead; niece, Shirley Marsh and her husband Joe of Sun City, AZ; special sister-in-law, Haysel Brown of Butler, PA; and "adoptive" daughter, Dena Kooijman and husband Edgar of Kent. In celebration of Jessie's life, the family encourages people to wear RED to the calling hours and service since red was Jessie's favorite color. Calling hours will be held Friday, September 17th from 4-7 PM at Bissler Funeral Home, 628 W Main St, Kent, OH. Services will be held Saturday, September 18 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church of Kent, 1435 E. Main St, Kent, OH with burial immediately following at Standing Rock Cemetery.
