Jimie A. Vance, DMD, 94, of Medina, died Friday, July 31, 2015, at Hospice of Medina County.
Born February 9, 1921, to Arby Franklin and Grace Emma (Scott) Vance in Lansing, Michigan, he was raised near Organ Cave, West Virginia. Following graduation from Greenbrier County High School, he served in the Navy as an aviation machinist's mate first class in the Pacific during WW II, and as an Air Force technical sergeant during the Korean War.
After his service, he married Arlyne E. Anderson and went on to earn a degree in education at Concord University. In 1954 he graduated from the University of Louisville as a Doctor of Dental Medicine. He practiced dentistry in downtown Kent from 1955 to 1964, and in Miami and Melbourne, Florida, until his retirement in 2003. Dr. Vance served as president of the Florida Dental Association and received a Masters and Fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry. He served in various capacities with the Academy, including National Secretary/Treasurer and National Director of Region 5. He received a Doctorate of the Humanities from Wheeling University. His great love of travel took him to all 50 states and many foreign countries. In 2011 he traveled on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. for ceremonies at the World War II Memorial.
Dr. Vance is survived by his children, Anita J. (Rick) Kedzierski of Tampa, Jimie A. Vance, Jr. of Chicago (partner Karen Otto), and Dr. Frederick A. (Carol) Vance of Odessa, Fla.; grandchildren, Valentina (Logan) Tucker, Jimmy Vance (partner Ashley Rorer), Geoffrey (Laura) Vance, Allen Brown Vance, and Ted Kedzierski; and sister-in-law, Eva Vance of Kent, nephews, Rick Vance (Donna) and Roger Vance (Sherry), niece, Linda (Mike) Poinski and many great-nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by Arlyne E. Vance, his parents, and brothers, Brown and Emory Vance.
A Mason for 59 years, Dr. Vance returned to Ohio in 2007 and was a resident of The Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina until his death.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., August 8, at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, with Rev. Kevin Angel officiating. Burial will be at noon at Standing Rock Cemetery.
