John Bauer

March 18, 1943 — September 27, 2011

John Bauer, beloved father, brother, uncle and son died suddenly on Tuesday, September 27th. The fatality occurred at the Bauer farm, where he had lived most of his 68 years. He attended Kent State High School and graduated from Kent State University in 1965 with a degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, he became an Ensign in the U.S. Coast Guard and served honorably for fours years. John worked for Bridgestone Firestone, retiring within the last year with 47 years of dedicated service. He worked for the company in many capacities.

While living in Hudson, he was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and served as their treasurer for many years. An avid train buff, John was an active member of the Cuyahoga Valley Terminal Model Railroad Club in Cuyahoga Falls and has been the club's treasurer.

For over a year and continuing after his retirement, John has taken classes at KSU under the Senior Guest Program. He found the classes stimulating and energizing and loved his interactions with faculty and students. He was truly a life long learner.

John loved the time he spent with his family. As a hands-on grandfather he created projects with his grandchildren, which included building model rockets, robots and bird houses. He enjoyed bike riding on the Cuyahoga Valley trails with his sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. John was known for his friendliness and ability to connect with people he encountered in everyday life. He will be greatly missed. He also took pride in the care and maintenance of the Bauer farm, which has been in the family for over 110 years.

John was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Agnes Bauer. He leaves behind daughters Janette (Jason) Cherry of Hilton Head SC and Julie (Young) Choi Downingtown, PA; grandchildren, Albert Choi, Savannah & Lexi Rae Cherry; sisters, Barbara (Richard) Edmunds of Brimfield and Karen (Jim) Nemeth of Lafayette Hill, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
