John F. DeVos, 73, of Brimfield, passed away after a lengthy illness at University Hospital Portage Medical Center in the Hospice Unit on Saturday, February 25, 2017.
He was born on August 31, 1943 in Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna to Bert and Alta DeVos and was a resident in Kent until 1999. He was a Beacon Journal paper boy from 1952 to 1958 on North Water Street in Kent. John was a 1961 graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School.
Through the years he was employed by Highway Products, Cortez Motors, Allen Aircraft, and worked part time at the Brimfield Dairy Mart and the Brimfield McDonalds.
He is survived by one sister, Grace L. Lowry of Brimfield; Nephew, William (Pam) Lowry; Nieces, Cheryl Bailey; Kathy Sklare, Janet DeVos and Terri (John) Crawford. There are many great nephews and great nieces who will also miss their Great Uncle John.
He is also preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; nephews: Richard A. Lowry, John K. Lowry; Brother Albert DeVos Sr., nephew, Albert DeVos Jr., Brother-in-law, Verne Lowry and nephew-in-law Michael Bailey Sr.
Per John's request, Cremation has taken place and there will be no calling hours or services.
A special "Thank you" to UH Portage Medical Center and the hospice unit for taking good care of him and keeping him comfortable during the last 3 weeks.
