John Howard Fultz, 73, of Kent, Ohio, passed away on March 20, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimers. Born on March 4, 1949, in East Liverpool, Ohio, John was a graduate of Beaver Local High School and Kent State University, where he earned his Master's Degree.
John was a dedicated runner and ran many Marathons across the country and in Alaska as well as running many weekend 5K's. He was an avid reader and enjoyed staying abreast of the latest technologies. He taught computer classes to the elderly. He was a Jennings Scholar Award recipient in 1971. In 1997, he was one of 13 people from throughout the United States, who were selected for their interest and involvement in technology, to represent the U.S. in South Africa through the Student Ambassador program, People to People.
John enjoyed satirical comedy. For years he had his own business, Phantastic Phunnies, that provided one-liners and comedy material for many renowned comedians and radio personalities. He also wrote a light-hearted column for the Record Courier for a short period of time.
John met and married his wife Sandy when he became a teacher at Franklin Elementary in Kent. They were co-teachers of the 6th grade class. He taught there for 30 years before retiring. He and Sandy shared their lives with many students over those years. These students truly were "their kids" and they loved them all. Getting these students excited about learning was paramount to John. If you talk to any of these people today, you find out he successfully accomplished that.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Irene Fultz, his sisters and their husbands, Dolores (Skip Ralston), Charlene (Chuck Rodgers), Myrna (Charlie Lowe), and LaRue (Ned Bowers).
John's family was important to him and he gave much of his time and love to help make happy memories for them. He leaves behind to cherish these memories, his loving wife of 46 years, Sandy; her father (Dick Liebhart) and sister (Linda Liebhart Quinn); many nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews.
A very sincere thank you to everyone at KentRidge Senior Living and Memory Care where John had been a resident for 11 years, as well as Transitions Hospice that helped care for him. Your understanding and loving care of him will always be deeply appreciated.
Per John's wishes, there will be no funeral services.
