John Konstantinos, 76, of Twin Lakes, died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Justin T. Rogers Care Center in Copley.
He was born August 13, 1936 in Yorkville, OH to Kostas and Mary Josephine (Mula) Konstantinos.
John was a nationally recognized athlete, football coach, sports administrator, and commissioner with: the Cleveland-Canton-Philadelphia Bulldogs, Temple, William and Mary, NC State, Eastern Illinois, Arkansas, Kent State, Cleveland State, and the Ohio State Athletic Commission. Career highlights included: All Pro status as a player in the United and Continental Football Leagues, induction into the University of Charleston Athletic Hall of Fame, and 5 major bowl appearances as a coach with NC State and Arkansas, including the 1980 Sugar Bowl game for the national championship.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra (nee Green); son: Christopher (Jenny) Konstantinos of Richmond, VA; daughter: Alexandria (Mr. Courtney Miller) Konstantinos of Dublin, OH; granddaughter, Ava Konstantinos of Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Peg Konstantinos of Sunset Beach, NC; brother: Mr. Joseph (Sharon) Konstantinos of Martinez, GA; and sister: Madeline (Mr. Myron) Kukla of Holland, MI. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kiki Konstantinos; and sister, Stella Jones.
Calling hours will be held 5-8 PM Monday, March 18th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent where services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 19th with V. Rev. Fr. George J. Treff officiating. A private burial will be held at Eglington Cemetery in Clarksboro, NJ.
