John E. Kordinak, age 75, of Kent, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Akron General Hospital in Akron. John was born in Kent, on July 23, 1945 at home to Edward and Betty (Wise) Kordinak. He followed the Catholic Faith and attended the Newman Center.
John graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1963, he was a member of the RHS football team and talked fondly of his football days. He enlisted in the Army in 1966 and was deployed to Vietnam in 1967. He was part of the Mobile Riverine Force 34th Artillery Company B, as a platoon leader.
John graduated with his Bachelor’s degree from Malone University. He worked as the Kent Water Manager for many years, winning a great distinction for the city of Kent in 1995, when Kent was awarded the Best Tasting Water in the World, at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Contest. Upon retiring from the City of Kent, he started his own Well and Septic Inspection Business, Future Environmental Management Services Inc.
John was a long-standing member of the Kent Lions Club. He was most well-known for his humor, and could light up a room with laughter, whether it was the latest Dad joke, witty banter, or an inappropriate joke, he certainly knew how to make people smile. He enjoyed hunting trips with friends in New York State, Summer Vacations at the beach in Rhode Island with his family and Video Recording all of life’s moments with the latest camcorder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Elizabeth (Wise) Kordinak and beloved pets, Minnie and Astro. He is survived by daughters, Emily Kordinak and Jacqueline (Josh Kashmer) Kordinak; grandson, Logan Kordinak; sisters, Theresa Fertig, Louise Weiss, Patricia Kordinak, Mary Lee, Kathleen Rhoads and Elizabeth Siciliano, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the USO (United Service Organizations) at https://www.uso.org/donate/donate-in-honor. This organization meant a lot to my father while he was on active duty oversees, and he wished for other officers to benefit from their services.
Visitation and Memorial Services will be Private due to COVID-19. A greater celebration of life will follow once COVID-19 restrictions and dangers have been lifted.
