John And Sophie Knapp

John P. Knapp, 93, of Hudson, and formerly of Elyria and Sandusky, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021, in the comfort of his home surrounded by family.  He was born in Kent, Ohio on June 7, 1927, to the late John L. and Florence C. Knapp and was a graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School.  After high school he joined the Army and served in the Philippines.  Upon returning, John and his brother Don operated a gas station in Kent, Ohio.  He also worked for Grapette and City Bakery before joining Metropolitan Life Insurance company where he worked as an insurance salesman and manager for 28 years, retiring in 1986.  He was an avid golfer who never missed an opportunity to hit the links.  He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers Bernard and Raymond Knapp.

He was survived by his wife, Sophie, for seven days.  She passed away on May 14, 2021.

Sophie Knapp, 93, of Hudson, passed away on May 14, 2021, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family.  She was born in Kent on July 23, 1927 to the late Bruno and Anna Mileski.  She married John in 1949, and they celebrated their 71st anniversary last August 27.  She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a home maker, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always put her family first.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Steve, Bruno, Stanley, Joseph, John, Eddie, and her sister Amelia.

They leave their children, John Knapp-Fallbrook, CA, Mikelann Weiss of Smyrna, DE, Mark Knapp(Ann) of Brimfield, OH, Christine Knapp of Silver Lake, OH and Susan Williams(Jeff) of Wilmington, NC, daughter-in-law, Linda Knapp; 9 grandchildren, Lori, Lisa, Marlene, Jeremy, Jacob, John, Kelly, Michael and Samantha; 13 great grandchildren-Griffin, Maddox, Avery, Lillian, Olivia, Zayne, Caden, Xavier, Grayson, Alexander, Arlo, Asa, and Austin ; John's brothers Donald, Tom and Gary Knapp and Sophie's brother Mack Mileski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 21, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 313 N. DePeyster St. Kent, OH 44240, with The Rev. Fr. Richard Pentello as officiant.  Inurnment will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery.  Visitation will be prior to Mass from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM at St Patrick Catholic Church.
