Jose D. Sandoval, 100, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at University Hospital in Cleveland. He was born in Arboles, Colorado on October 3, 1921 to the late J.V. and Isabel Candelaria Sandoval and raised in Gobernador, New Mexico.
Jose proudly served in the 88th Infantry Division (The Blue Devils) in the United States Army during WWII, where he was stationed in Africa and Italy and was awarded two Silver Stars. He also served during the Korean War, and retired on January 31, 1966 after 22 years of service to his country. He then enlisted in the United States Army Reserves and served for an additional year. He began his employment with Kent State University in 1966 and worked in Mail Service for 20 years, retiring in 1986. Jose was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kent VFW, Kent American Legion Post #496 and TREA. He volunteered extensively at Robinson Memorial Hospital. He was an avid fly fisherman and made his own flies. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and was a very social person. Jose will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jane, Alice, Isabel, Frank, Elenor, Victor, Soledad and Augustiniano.
He leaves his loving wife Inge Sandoval; daughter and son-in-law Christine and Justin Droder and grandchildren, Janae, Evan and Jaron Droder. He was “Tio” to numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 11:00AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 313 N. Depeyster St. Kent, OH 44240, with the Rev. Fr. Richard Pentello as Celebrant. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made, in his name, to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
