Joseph David Lukacik

On Tuesday, October 11, 2022, Joseph David Lukacik passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his family, joining his wife of 45 years, Jacqueline (Smith) Lukacik who passed in 2002. He lovingly called her, his Jack-o-Lantern as they were married on Halloween, October 31, 1957. His Catholic faith guided him through life.

He was the youngest of 10 children, 6 brothers and 3 sisters, to Vincent and Agnes (Matula), born in Akron Ohio, April 25, 1935 during the depression. Mr. Lukacik is survived by beloved son David (Susan) Lukacik and daughter Michele (Reed) Kneale; six grandchildren, Reed Kneale Jr., Joseph (Nicole) Kneale, Casey (Vicki) Kneale, William Kneale, Amanda (Robert) Kirby, and Abby Lukacik; three great grandchildren, Josephine Kneale, Ted Kneale, and McKenna Kirby and by cousins, nieces and nephews.

The Lukacik men proudly served their country with his father Vincent in WWI, five brothers serving multiple tours in WWII and Joseph during the Korean Conflict in the Ohio National Guard.

His career with Goodyear in Akron ran 28 years, retiring in 1994, managing the production of race tires. He was affectionally called, “Jumping Joe” for his perfect attendance record and detail.

Fishing, jewelry making, love of sports, golfing, hiking, poetry, and catering to his coveted grandchildren occupied his free time when not pursuing Jackie’s eclectic missions. He will be missed yet will live on in our memories for his kindness, patience, and wisdom.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 9:00AM to 11:00AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00AM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240.  Interment will be at Standing Rock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to Catholic Charities.
