Joseph William Miley

February 6, 1931 — October 6, 2010

Buford served in the U. S Army in WWII. Upon his return from the Army he worked various jobs including construction, factory worker, and cook. He was employed by the Akron Post Office as an equal opportunity officer for the state of Ohio until his retirement in 1987. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Thomas) Meredith, whom he married on December 12,1941; son, Buford Meredith III of Ravenna; daughters, Gloria Jean (Marvin) Maffett and Marlene (Ronald) Wright both of Kent; granddaughters, Cheryl Friday of Akron, Alanna Wright of Brimfield and Ralise Wright of Kent; grandsons, Marvin "Tip" Maffett Jr. of Akron and Derrick (Valerie) Maffett of Clarksville, TN; great grandchildren, Derricus Friday, Tiana Friday, Shannon Gayles, Giavanni Maffett , Morgan Maffett,, Arianna Maffett, Mikel Smith, Derrick Maffett Jr,, Derria Maffett, Devonte Maffett, Demarquis Maffett, Destinee Maffett, Deron Maffett, Davion Wright, Trinity Rakes, Marcus Turnage and Ronald Turnage, Malaya Turnage; great great grandchildren, Alysia Allen,Semiyah Maffett, Shianne Allen, Aanijah Springfield, Jaiden Woolridge and Ronell Gayles; adopted daughter, Elizabeth" Liz" Reed; adopted son, Mike Powell; brothers Louis (Katherine) Meredith and Ralph Meredith both of Detroit, MI.; brother in law Bob ( Eleanor) Thomas, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Meredith. The Meredith family wishes to thank the Robinson Memorial Hospital Visiting Nurses, the home health aids, Dr. Yanelli for his loving care, and special thank you to Eddie Sperling someone that was more than just a cook, he was more like a grandson. Calling hours will be held 6-8pm Friday, March 26 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Saturday March 27th at the United Church of Christ 1440 East Main Street, Kent with Rev. Dr. W. C. Watts officiating. Burial will be in Standing Rock Cemetery.
