Josephine M. Battista, 86, of Kent, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012 at KentRidge at Golden Pond in Kent.

She was born June 9, 1926 in Ravenna, OH to Joseph and Leta (Naturale) Chionchio.

Josephine graduated from Ravenna High School in 1943. During and after high school, Josephine worked in her father's dry cleaning and tailor business in Ravenna. She continued her dry cleaning and tailoring work with her husband Angelo in their Kent business Campus Cleaners.

After she left the dry cleaning business, Josephine worked in the Title Department in the Portage County Court House. She then moved to Kent State University as a clerk specialist in the Information Counter in the Registrar's Office, a job she continued until 1992 when she retired. Josephine greatly enjoyed her job at Kent State because she loved to meet and work with students, university staff, and faculty. Due to her dedication to her job, in 1991 she was awarded KSU's Outstanding Service Award for "her exceptional public relations skills."

Josephine is survived by her son Michael (Kathy) Battista of Powell, OH; daughter, Susie Kleman of Steamboat Springs, CO; grandchildren, Jonathan Battista of Overland Park, KS, Emily (Matt) Trudgen of St. Peters, MO, Alex Kleman of Colorado Springs, CO, Jake Kleman of Steamboat Springs, CO; great granddaughter, Emma Kleman of Colorado Springs, CO; brother, Matthew Chionchio of Ravenna, OH; and sister, Joanne (Patrick) Kilbane of Indianapolis, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband Angelo Battista; her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Al Wysel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Wednesday, November 21st at St. Patrick Church 313 DePeyster Street, Kent with Father Richard Pentello officiating. Burial will be at Standing Rock Cemetery. Bissler & Sons Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
