Kathleen “Bonnie” McBride, 78, of Kent, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Heather Knoll Retirement Village. She was born in Akron on October 11, 1942 to the late Floyd and Jacqueline Archer. She was a 1961 graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School, the first class to go through the new school.
Bonnie retired from Kent State University, where she was employed as an equipment room manager in the gymnasium and also from KAPCO, where she was a switchboard operator. Following her retirement, Bonnie and her husband, Richard spent the winters at a place they owned in Ft. Myers, FL. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Kent American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and Kent VFW Women’s Auxiliary where she was very involved with the drill team and color guard, competing and winning several competitions. She loved to dance, whether on the canopy at Short Stop Drive Inn or on a table at a wedding reception. She was very proud of the fact that she was a Brady Lake Muskrat and loved to sneak out to The Clubhouse.
In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard McBride on June 13, 2020; her sisters, Janet Monoco and Linda Roberts and her brother Gary Archer.
She leaves her two sons, Richard (Amie Kaminski) McBride of Tallmadge and Brian H. (Erica Starkey) McBride of Kent; grandson Zach C. McBride; and her brothers, Larry (Cindy) Archer of Canton and Donald Archer of Maryland.
Calling hours will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00PM on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 12:00PM with Rev. Kimberly Warren officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
