Kathryn K. Townsend (nee Remaklus) was born December 26, 1944. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and artist with a kind soul and generous heart. She went home to be with our Lord on November 14, 2021.
Kathy graduated from Our Lady of the Elms high school. She worked as a dental hygienist while attending night school at the University of Akron. Kathy married her best friend and soulmate, Jack Townsend, on June 11, 1966. The couple moved to California, where she completed her degree in fine arts from Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria.
Kathy was a talented artist who enjoyed painting and making ceramics and sculptures. She advanced her work through classes at the Bob Ross Academy in New Smyrna Beach Florida. She also loved helping others, whether it was through a kind word, or through her charity work which included volunteering as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army, a Lay Eucharistic Minister for a local retirement home, or as a volunteer receptionist for Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch California. Kathy also loved music and would listen to records for hours each morning. Her favorite artist was John Denver.
Kathy cherished her family above all else. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Kathy was preceded in death by her mom, Alene Remaklus (nee Parrillo); her dad, Clarence Remaklus; and her brother, Gene Remaklus. She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Jack Townsend; her daughter, Jennifer (William) Bailey, her son, Jason (Hannah) Townsend; grandchildren Victoria Bailey, Collin Bailey, Vada Townsend and James Townsend.
The family will receive friends 10:00 A.M. SATURDAY November 20, 2021 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 628 W. Main Street Kent, OH 44240, with a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 A.M. Interment at Standing Rock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Elms, 1375 W. Exchange Street Akron, OH 44313.
