On October 21, 2020, Keith H. Bowers, of Kent, succumbed to Covid-19.
He was born in Lancaster, South Carolina on February 29, 1932.
After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and served as Sgt. Keith Bowers on an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he was the recipient of distinctive honors: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal. With the assistance of the GI Bill benefits, he earned a BA and MA in education at Kent State University. After four years of teaching at Highland Elementary School in Ravenna, he accepted the position of sixth grade teacher at Longcoy Elementary, where he remained until he retired in 1989. Keith was totally committed to his career as a teacher. He deeply cared about and respected his students, and wanted his students to care about themselves and their self-esteem.
He is survived by his wife Betty, his daughter Sandra, daughter-in-law Colleen Norris, and granddaughters Katelyne and Allison.
Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in his name may be sent to Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary in Ravenna.
