Kenneth L. Hurd died unexpectedly of a heart attack in Akron on February 11, 2016, at the age of 64.
Ken was born on August 12, 1951 to Herbert and Eloise (Cain) Hurd, the youngest of six children, and was raised in Kent. He graduated from Kent State University High School in 1969. He married Chari (Hemrick) on March 27, 1992, and they had one daughter, Rebekah Lynne. Ken worked for the Portage County Recycling Center for over 30 years until his retirement in 2015.
Ken was a hard-working man who was always willing to lend a hand to help others. He was a loyal Indians, Steelers, and Buckeyes fan. Ken enjoyed singing and he had a wonderful and infectious laugh. He was a loving father and he will be greatly missed.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife, Chari; daughter, Rebekah; step-children, Brian (Jane) Parr and Melissa Waldrup; and grandchildren, Trent Risper, Carl Parr, Krystal Parr, and Odin Waldrup, all of Akron. He is also survived by his siblings, Herbert (Lorna) Hurd of Tallmadge, Jack (Alice) Hurd of Kent, Nancy (Chuck) Doremus of Grand River, Linda (Larry) Harvey of Ft. Myers, FL, and Russell (Patricia) Hurd of Copley. He also leaves behind 13 nieces and nephews, their spouses and children, and many more family members and friends.
Calling hours for Ken are scheduled at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, 628 W. Main Street in Kent, on Friday March 4, from 6 to 8 pm. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 5, at 2:00 pm at the United Methodist Church, 1435 E. Main Street, Kent, followed by a luncheon at the church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ken's life.
