Kenneth “Kenny” A. Meek, age 88, of Kent went home to be with the Lord on November 8, 2020, at Heather Knoll Nursing Home in Tallmadge.
Kenny was born on October 21, 1932, in Troy, Ohio, to the late Harry and Nellie S. (Powell) Meek. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Forrest Sherman as a cook, and after being honorably discharged, he became a member of the Air National Guard for a few years.
He spoke often of his time working for his cousin’s business, The Coffelt Candy Company, at many sites including Cedar Point and Geauga Lake, and enjoyed the many customers he met through Coffelt’s. He truly loved flying their company plane as well as his trips in their tractor-trailer delivering product. Kenny also had his private pilot’s license.
Kenny began working for Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in 1984. Living above the funeral home, he made a name for himself with many of the children in the neighborhood when he started fixing bicycles that he would pull from the trash, bring to his shop, rebuild, paint, and then give to someone! This really gave him joy.
He enjoyed fishing...though it was often said he enjoyed buying fishing gear!! His love of the water he attributed to his time in the U.S. Navy. He was full of stories of his recent “finds” at yard sales and stores. He also enjoyed working in his shop tinkering, tearing things apart just to see how they worked or making things out of wood to give away to his friends. He collected many things including model cars. Kenny loved feeding the squirrels in the neighborhood, and would have them eating out of his hand.
Kenny will be remembered for his great sense of humor and the kindness he always showed to everyone he met. But, most of all, he will be remembered for his love of his wife and his God. He was a member of Mission Baptist Temple of Stow. His favorite bible verse was John 14:1-6.
Kenny is survived by his loving wife, Tammy (Davidson), whom he married on November 24, 1981. He is also survived by his brother, Irvin (Sharon) Meek of Pontiac, MI; sister, Clara Tobias of Miamisburg; nieces, Nicole (Michael) Stephan of Rootstown and Lisa (Jozsef) Jakab of Kent; and several other nieces, nephews, and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, James Meek, Grace McGuire, Mary Broughton, Donald Meek, Martha McGuire, and Barbara Puterbaugh.
