Kenneth H. Reed

September 24, 1937 — September 24, 2015

Kenneth H. Reed, 78, of Freedom Township, died Thursday, September 24, 2015 at UH Portage Medical Center in Ravenna.

He was born October 29, 1936 in Warren to Kenneth W. and Lillian (Daymond) Reed. He was a graduate of James A. Garfield High School in Garrettsville. He continued his education at typesetting and electronics schools, as well as courses at Maplewood Vocational School. He was driven by his need to always improve himself. Reading and educating himself continued all his life as he enjoyed and took pride in finding solutions, building a part, or solving a problem. His family, his home, and his possessions were well loved and cared for.

Ken delivered newspapers while in grade school and worked for the Garrettsville Journal while in High School. He then worked as a typesetter at the Record Courier. He remodeled older homes and retired as an oil and gas well operator.

He took great pride in his antique cars, tractor, and high-wheeled bicycle. Wood crafts he created, such as intarsia and clocks, are an excellent example of his meticulous attention to detail.

His family wants his friends to know that Ken played a huge part in making their lives happy and comfortable. We love him.

He is survived by his wife, Delores (Bossow) Reed, whom he married on July 7, 1956; daughters, Denise (Jeff) Taylor and DeAnna (Dave) Sommers; grandchildren, Tami (John) Smith, Neomi Taylor, Kenny Scherer, and Eddie Scherer; great grandchildren, Joshua and Jackson Smith; sister, Marilyn (Dick) Porter; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Beatrice Bossow. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife's parents, Ernst and Anna Bossow; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lee and Red Edmundston; and brother-in-law, Spartico Roberto.

Calling hours will be held 5-7 PM Tuesday, September 29th at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 8382 Center Street, Garrettsville, where a celebration of Ken's life will be held 7:00 PM with Kevin O'Brien officiating. Private burial will be held at Freedom Township Cemetery in Drakesburg. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that you do something with your family.
