LaVerne K. " Verne" Lowry, 80, of Brimfield passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Akron City Hospital after a two month illness.
Verne was born on May 24, 1933 in Stow, to John E. and Veronica G. Lowry. He attended Stow schools and met the "Love of his life", Grace L. DeVos from Kent in 1952, they were married on November 20, 1954. They had 5 children, Cheryl, William, Richard, Kathy, and John. They were residents of Kent and Stow. In 1961 they purchased their home in Brimfield.
Verne was employed as an auto body specialist at Lyman Chevrolet for 25 years and over the years worked for Simpson Chevrolet, Tri-Dec Body Shop, Brothers Body Shop and Carson Auto Shop. In 1988, he became an Oil truck driver for Jones Brothers Oil and continued to work there until he retired in 1998.
Verne loved collecting trains and stamps. He was well known at the Hartville Flee Market as "The Train Man". He would ride a bicycle around the market making his purchases, and meeting and making many friends.
Verne and his family attended many Churches in the area, First Baptist of Brimfield, Kent Baptist Temple, Tree City Baptist , and Victory Baptist Temple where he served as a Deacon and Trustee; his wife was church secretary.
Verne is survived by his wife of 58½ years, Grace; children Cheryl A. (John Naus) Bailey of Akron, William R. (Pam) Lowry of Stow, and Katherine Sklare of Deerfield Beach, FL; former son-in-law Chuck (Sheryl) Sklare of Brimfield; grandchildren, Nicole (Dave Sopko) Sklare of Stow, Nick Sklare of Akron, Stefanie (Josh) Demuth of

Yuma , AZ, Michael Bailey Jr. of North Canton, Thomas Lowry of Stow, and John & Matt Lowry of Jackson Twp.; step-granddaughter, Megan (Brian) Moore of Virginia Beach; great grandchildren; Tyler, Kyle, Isaiah and Bristen; brother, Robert (Eve) Lowry of Tallmadge; brother - in-law , John F. DeVos of Brimfield; niece, Janet De Vos, and Terri (John) Crawford; and nephew Albert W. De Vos Jr.
Verne was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sons Richard A. Lowry and John K. Lowry; brother-in-law, Albert De Vos Sr.; and son-in-law, Michael R. Bailey Sr.
