Lawrence "Larry" Fisher

Lawrence "Larry" Fisher, 85, of Kent, died Monday, February 23, 2015 at Akron City Hospital Medical Center.

He was born August 15, 1929 in Kent to George M. and Edna L. (Englehart) Fisher. He was married 64 years ago on June 24, 1950, to June Cogan of Kent. The Korean War conflict started June 25th and he left for the service in August with the National Guard unit of Kent. He served as a drill sergeant in the Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where his first son was born at the Army hospital.

Larry worked for the Austin Company of Cleveland where he was a Construction Superintendent for the building of the Boeing 737 building in Everett, Washington, the building of an addition for the McDonald Douglas in St. Louis, the inter Mountain Power project in Shelocta, PA, and the Newsday Newspaper on Long Island, NY. He worked in 8 states building for the Austin Company. Larry also taught vocational carpentry at Ashtabula and Mahoning Joint Vocational Schools.

He is survived by his wife, June (Cogan) Fisher, whom he married on June 24, 1950; children, Gregory Fisher of Kent, Dianna (Pat) Patrick of Scottsdale, AZ, Timothy (Michelle) Fisher of Brimfield, Mary (Mitch Bryant) Halachoff, and Joanne (Rick) Knapp of Brimfield; daughter-in-law, Shari Fisher of Columbus; grandchildren, Sara Fisher, Jeffery Fisher Jr., Lindsay Fisher, Larry Fisher, Julie Knapp, Danielle Halachoff, Katherine Knapp, Joseph Knapp, Derek Halachoff and Kyle Knapp; six great grandchildren; brother, Thomas Fisher of Kent; and sisters, Dorothy McMahon of Cleveland and Susan (Chuck) Lanning of Kent. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffery Fisher; and sister, Sr. Anna Marie Fisher.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff of the Trauma and Palliative Care units at Akron City Hospital.

Calling hours will be held 5-7 PM Thursday, February 26th at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent followed by a Celebration of Life service at 7PM. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, February 27th at St. Patrick Church with Father Richard Pentello officiating. Burial will be held at 1PM Friday at Standing Rock Cemetery.
