Leida C. Alexie, 98, of Kent, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at The Woodlands at Robinson.
She was born September 1, 1913 in Kent to Harvey Kerr and Mary (Mindek) Crabb. She worked as an Aide at Kent State University Health Center for 28 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Kent, Circle E of UCC and the Daughters of the American Revolution, Aaron Olmstead Chapter.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who never thought first of herself, but always of others, and leaves a caring, loving legacy for family and friends to emulate. She loved watching things grow and continued to garden until declining physical health turned her attention to other interests such as sewing, and crocheting with which she generously gifted others. She was an avid reader and was actively involved with current events right up to her death.Leida had the genealogy of her entire family committed to memory dating from the 1700's.
She is survived by sons; Gerald (Shirley) Homer of Kent, Robert (Sandra) Homer of Kent; daughter-in-law, Margie Homer of Kent; twenty five grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; step-daughters, Mary Stempenski of Glen Burnie, MD; Irene (Jack) Malaga of Brecksville, Joanne (Bill) Uhl of Cleveland, and Katherine Alexie of Parma.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Alexie; her son, John Homer; daughter-in-law, Marcella Homer; sisters-in-law, Betty Van Der Steen, Sadie Crabb; brothers, Stephen Van Der Steen, Coe Van Der Steen, William Crabb; step-daughter, Corrina Strauss; and step son-in-law, Don Stempenski.
Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday, January 3rd at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home 628 West Main Street, Kent, where services be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 4th with Rev. Heather Wicks officiating. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to United Church of Christ of Kent, 1400 E.
