Lilli Emma (Bates) Meluch, 95, was called to her heavenly home early Saturday morning, July 22, 2017. Lilli was born February 24, 1922 to Charles Homer Bates and Katharina Sauerwein Bates.
After graduating from Lash High School in Zanesville, she worked at Timken Roller Bearing and also switchboard operator for Ohio Bell Telephone in Zanesville before moving to Kent, Ohio. There she worked for Kent State University, Davey Compressor and many years for Macy's Department Store. She also was an avid gardener and spent many happy hours beautifying her surroundings.
She is survived by one son, William J (Denise) Kovaleski of Wisconsin; one brother, Robert L. (Mary) Bates of Zanesville; three grandchildren, William J Kovaleski Jr. of Wisconsin, Bradley (Emma) Kovaleski of England and Brandie (Andrew) Brummer of Minneapolis; eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Andrew (Andy) Meluch; a grandson Andrew Kovaleski; brother, Charles (Mitsue) Bates; three sisters, Hilda (Tony) Hamilton, Betty (Bud) Hague and Charlotte (Peter) Garbutt.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church in Kent Friday, July 28 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Standing Rock Cemetery. Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, in Kent is handling the arrangements.
