Linda Kay Roebke, 83, passed away in Kent on January 14. She was born in Loveland, Colorado on June 27, 1941, to Melvin and Neva Meier. She spent her childhood in Johnstown and Colorado Springs before moving to Denver.
Linda graduated from Wheatridge High School in 1959. It was there that she met her husband, Andy Roebke. They married in 1962 and built a life together that spanned nearly four decades until Andy's death in 2000.
As a devoted stay-at-home mom, Linda created special childhood experiences for her children - talking neighborhood walks with the dog and a wagon, making weekly trips to the public library, and embarking on 'field trips’ via RTD bus to the Denver Art Museum. She later served as a secretary for Adams County School District #50 for 20 years, working first at Shaw Heights Junior High and later at the Administration Building.
A few years after Andy's passing, Linda relocated to Kent, Ohio, where she shared a home with her son and daughter-in-law, beginning a new chapter in her life, which included good times with family and friends, many travel adventures, observing the wildlife in the backyard, and driving a red pick-up truck.
From childhood, Linda was enchanted by miniatures, which blossomed into her greatest passion—building and decorating dollhouses. Throughout her lifetime, she crafted and furnished more than 20 dollhouses and two dozen room boxes, always dreaming up her next project.
Books were another constant companion in Linda's life. An enthusiastic member of three book clubs, she proudly achieved a personal record of reading 55 books in 2024.
Her giving spirit shone through her volunteer work, delivering Meals-on-Wheels, helping in kindergarten and first-grade classrooms at Longcoy Elementary and St. Patrick School, dedicating more than a decade to hospice service, and countless other little efforts to make the world better.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Survivors include her son John (Carmen) Roebke, her daughter Barbara (Richard) Barela, grandchildren Mary and Frank, her brother Bill (Sandi) Meier, nephew Jay (Amy) Meier, and niece Tracy (Aaron) Pataluna, and several great nieces and nephews.
When the coroner called, he commented that it seemed unusual for a woman her age to drive a red pick-up truck. Carmen responded that he didn't know her!
In honoring her wishes, Linda will be cremated and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 10:00AM at University Parish Newman Center, 1424 Horning Rd. Kent, OH 44240, with the Rev. Fr. John Jerek as Celebrant.
