Linda Mary Scontrino - Loving Mother, Wife, Maw-maw and friend, passed away surrounded by loved ones in her home on October 29, 2024, only 3 weeks and 3 hours apart from her husband of 65 years, after a long hard-fought battle with Kidney and lung disease.
Linda was born to the late Lawrence and Dorothy Castillon in New Orleans, La. on August 10, 1941. She was their only beloved child. She is preceded in death by her husband Andrew Nolan (Andy) Scontrino, her parents, her beloved Grandmother Claire (Ayo) Breaux and many other family members.
Linda met her husband Andrew while working at Metairie Bank in Metairie, La. They were married on July 10, 1959. She affectionately called him Sonny and he called her Babe. Shortly after marrying, Andrew joined the Air Force and she became a devoted Air Force wife. In 1970 she gave birth to her only daughter Dawn, who was her best friend from day one - a relationship that both Mother and Daughter cherished until the day she left us. As a family of 3, they traveled and lived in several different countries and states. When Dawn married Lars, it went without saying that both Linda and Andy would move with her and Trey to Ohio so they could be together.
Anyone who knew Linda knows that she was an amazing cook. She was known for always cooking family favorite dishes that included Lasagna, Gumbo, Spaghetti, 1 fruit cake a year for Andrew and her "world" famous potato salad.
She enjoyed cross stich, crocheting, Western movies and reading her crime novels. She never missed a day of the price is right and let's make a deal. When she was a young girl, her passion was dancing, performing in several dance recitals. She loved a good joke, belly laughs, traveling and a fun game of rummy. One of her greatest joys in life was being a Maw-maw, a roll that was custom made for her.
She loved being an Air Force wife and always made each country or state feel like "home" for their family of 3. She was just as proud of her husband's service to our country as he was.
Her relationship with her daughter Dawn was the crowning achievement of her life. She and Dawn had an unbreakable bond. She was Dawns biggest cheerleader, her first best friend and constant confidant throughout her entire life. Dawn affectionately called her "Linda-Lou". Dawn will tell you that her mom Linda was the perfect mom, hand-picked by God just for her. There was no end to the love and respect they had for one another. Dawns greatest blessing will always be that she was able to hold her Mom's hand as she left this world and was reunited with her husband in heaven.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Dawn (Dragon) Ericsson, Her Son-in-law, Lars Ericsson, Her first and beloved grandson, Trey Dragon (her pride & Joy) (Sami Parrino), Her best cousin, Jane Carbone, Her granddaughter, Megan (Williams) Ericsson (Russell), & her grandson, Alex Ericsson (Diana), and her bonus daughter, Regina Bradley, as well as many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
