Leonard Swauger, 79, of Brady Lake, OH, passed away peacefully, after a short illness, on Sunday, January 31, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was born August 14, 1930 in Kent, OH to Robert and Nellie (Lewis) Swauger. He retired from Kent City Schools. Mr. Swauger was active in the Civil Defense, an active member of the Brady Lake Fire Dept., and upon retirement, he was a member of the Brady Lake Fire Dept. Association. Leonard enjoyed visiting friends and neighbors. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Simpson) Swauger. Sons: Rob (Karen) Swauger, Rootstown; Paul (Rebecca) Swauger, Kent. Daughters: Rebecca (Ed) Proske, Kent; Elizabeth (Jack) Weiss, Loudon, TN; Carol (John) Dorscher, Eagle River, AK. Grandchildren: Amy (Charlie) Redman, Ravenna; Jody (Mark) Armstrong, Wooster; Kelly Swauger, Rootstown; Haley and Emily Graser, Kent; Diana (Jerry) Proske-Turcotte, Buffalo, NY; Matt (Mariana) Proske, Villa Park, IL; Jessica (Shands) Plymale, Brimfield; Emily Proske, Kent; Jack (Kerri) Weiss, Charleston, SC; Leslie (Blayne) Young, Nashville, TN; Clinton (Yeny) Hemmelgarn, Miami, FL; Chelsie Hemmelgarn, Tuscon, AZ; and 10 great grandchildren. Leonard was also survived by siblings, in-laws, and their families. He was preceded in death by his beloved son Kenny and his brother Bruce. Memorials may be made in Leonard's name to the Brady Lake Volunteer Fire Dept., 2123 Merrill Road, Ravenna, OH 44266. Friends received on Wednesday, February 3rd, 4-7 p.m. at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, 628 West Main Street, Kent. A memorial service will be held following visitation at 7 p.m. with grandson, Mark Armstrong officiating.
