Lois Mae Ragan, 82, of Brimfield, died Monday, May 28, 2012 at Robinson Memorial Hospital. She was born May 22, 1930 in Cuyahoga Falls, to Eldred Evan and Eltheda Elsie (Hall) George.
She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Ragan, whom she married on July 9, 1951 at Killeen, TX; daughter, Sharon R. (Bernie) Polz of Kent; son, Robert S. (Mindy) Ragan of Brownsburg, IN; grandchildren, Rochelle (Stephen) Hostler, Rob Polz, Steven and Ryan Ragan; great grandchildren, Simon and Brennen Hostler.
She was a member, volunteer and historian for the Portage County Chapter of Ohio Genealogical Society, Portage County Historical Society, First Families of Ohio, First Settlers of Portage County and Old Northwest, Aaron Olmstead Chapter of National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution., and the Western Reserve Colony Society of Mayflower Descendants.
For 8 years she helped the Genealogy Society by reading and making an index of all of the tombstones in Portage County. The records were then published by the Society. She also served as historian for 14 years. She had traced her ancestry back to Gov. William Bradford of the Plymouth Colony.
