Lois Shallenberger, 75, passed away Thursday, August 5, 2010. She was born November 30, 1934 to Chester and Clarice (Beaubien) Hoak, and grew up in Cleveland Heights. A graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where she joined the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, she was an educator for 35 years. With her husband, Bill, she had a dairy farm in Garrettsville, and later moved to Kent. She spent the last 19 years of her life in Randolph Township. Lois retired from Kent City Schools where she touched many lives teaching 6th grade English. In retirement, she enjoyed meeting former students and colleagues while working at Kamburoff's Market and The Kent Free Library. Lois enjoyed spending her free time reading and being with family and friends. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, Bill; son, Chet (Gini); grandsons, Carl and David; brother, John; sisters, Kate Gray and Mandy; and many nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; and her daughter, Carla. A Celebration of Lois's life will be held Sunday, August 8th from 1-3 P.M. at The Great Hall at Trinity Lutheran Church, 600 South Water Street, Kent.
