Lola Katherine Fertig, 92, formerly of Ravenna, passed away January 26, 2016, at the Altercare of Brimfield.
Katherine was born August 29, 1923, in Ravenna, and was the daughter of the late William and Buelah (Slusser) Viall.
Katherine had a passion for many things. Her love of family would be at the top of the list, followed by The Ohio State Buckeyes. She rarely missed a game and her room was the place to get updates on the game. Cardinals, her favorite bird, were scattered around her house and lining the windowsill at Altercare in the attempt to attract them to her feeder just outside the window.
She was an avid Bingo player and a fierce competitor. She would save her winnings (bucks), and buy gifts for her family at the auctions held at Altercare. A highlight of her week was the weekend gatherings of her friends at Altercare for a meal and a little bit of juicy gossip, all provided by a special group of ladies.
Everyone in her life will remember her as a strong, passionate, and loving person, who brightened their lives with her presence.
Survivors include her son, Dwight (Pam) Fertig of Columbus, IN; daughter, Elizabeth (Steve) McDaniel of Ravenna; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Sally) Viall of Ravenna. Preceding her in death were husband, Robert in 2002, and brothers, Wendall and William Viall.
Calling hours will be held 6-9 PM Friday, January 29th, at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home, 628 West Main Street, Kent, where funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 30th with Rev. Stephen Sparling officiating. Katherine will be laid to rest at Standing Rock Cemetery in Kent.
