Louis "Lou" Horning, 89, of Kent, died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Kent Healthcare Center.
He was born August 18, 1925 in Kent to Emmett and Gertrude (Bower) Horning.
Lou had a great devotion to his church, St. Patrick Church of Kent. He was a Eucharistic Minister and took Communion to the shut-ins for many, many years. He also attended daily Mass until he could no longer attend.
Lou also had a great love of flowers that was instilled in him by his mother as a boy. He raised a lot of his own flowers, made arrangements, and shared them with everyone, regardless whether it was a birthday, anniversary or just to cheer them up.
For years and years, on the first Friday of each month, he gave someone a picture of Jesus and Mary and always included a beautiful bouquet of flowers and other small gifts. He did this as recently as October 4th, which was the 62nd wedding anniversary to his wife, Mary Lou.
Lou is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Jacobs); children, Jan Horning, Dave (Debbie Tubaugh) Horning, and Mark Horning , all of Kent, and Betsy (Bill) Jackman of Stow; grandchildren, Danielle Horning of Green, Derek Horning of Akron, and Robert and Andrew Jackman of Stow; sister-in-law, Eleanor Horning of Hudson; and nephews, Jim and Bill Horning. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Horning.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, October 23, 2014, at St. Patrick Church with Fr. Richard Pentello officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the services at the church. Bissler & Sons Funeral Home and Crematory are handling the arrangements.
