Louis A. Svette, 92, of Aurora, Ohio passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Kensington Care Center.
Louis was born September 17, 1922 to Mary (nee Mulh) and Frank Svette in Bedford, Ohio. He attended East Technical High School where he studied machining. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Louis married his wife Madeline (nee Stepic) on July 24, 1948 and they raised three children. He was skilled at many trades and built two of the homes in Ohio in which his family lived. In 1978, he and his wife moved to southern California, where they lived for 32 years. Louis worked as a machinist for most of his life until his retirement in 1986. Declining health brought him and his wife back to Ohio in 2010 to be near family.
Louis enjoyed traveling. He and his family spent many summer vacations visiting U.S. national parks. He was an avid outdoorsman and liked to camp and fish. Louis was a loyal Browns, Indians and Cavaliers fan and rarely missed a televised game. He enjoyed playing cards, listening to live polka music, doing crafts and playing bingo. Louis was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Kent and American Legion Post 496.
Louis is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mary Svette; brothers John (Dorothy) Svette, Barney (Pauline) Svette, Martin (Helen) Svette and Fritz (Ruth) Svette; sister-in-law Eleanor Svette; sisters Ann (Louis) Bobnar, Rose (Steve) Grega, Mary (John) Krecek, Agnes (Jack) Kable, Pauline (Tony) Stepic and Frances (Michael) Phan; and several nieces and nephews.
From his wife's family, Louis is preceded in death by brothers-in-law John (Irene) Stepic, Louis (Virginia) Stepic, Joseph (Margaret) Stepic, Albert (Ruth) Stepic, Frank (Helen) Stepic and Henry Stepic; sisters-in-law June Stepic, Sophie (Louis) Nosse and Mary (Joseph) Cesek; and several nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Madeline Svette of Kent; daughter Mary (Ronald) Rivett of Kent; sons Louis (Lisa) Svette of Bakersfield, CA and James (Debbie) Svette of Victorville, CA; grandchildren Meridith, Michael and Sara of CA; brother Joseph Svette of Ravenna; brother-in-law Edward Stepic of Chardon; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Friday, Feb. 27 from 4-7 pm at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home, 628 Main Street in Kent. A Service of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 11:00 am at Faith Lutheran Church, 931 East Main Street in Kent. Interment will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
