Lydia S. Marquinez, 96, of Kent, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Akron City Summa Health Center.  She was born in Manila, Philippines on February 16, 1927 to the late Filomen and Leoncia Salcedo.  Lydia graduated from the University of the Philippines at Manila in 1949, with a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy.  During this time, she earned the Barbour Scholarship, which sent her to England and the University of Washington.  She was employed with the Philippines Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for 19 years.

Lydia was an active member of University Church (Kent Presbyterian Church) for many years, where she enjoyed taking part in Bible studies.  She loved playing piano in her younger years and enjoyed reading, and fashion.  She will always be remembered as a loving mother, who gave up her pharmacy career to marry the love of her life and raise five children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Florencio A. Marquinez, MD; sisters, Leonila S. Perez and Virginia S. Obach; brothers, Filemon Jr, Jaime, Reynaldo, Eduardo and Bayani Salcedo; and her half-brother Emanuel Salcedo.

She leaves her children, Marquita “Susie” Kiss-Wielenga (Thomas), Florencio “Boris” Marquinez Jr, Florence “Pinky” Crowell, Emily Poulson and Aranka Mary Yap (Glenn); grandchildren, Matthew, Steven, Jason, Trenton, Russell, Jonathan and Alexander; great grandchildren, Lucas, Brooklyn, Nolyn, Ellis, Hailey Lydia Marie and Juliette; half-sister Morna Lonca and half-brother Filemon Salcedo.

Funeral services will be SATURDAY, January 20, 2024 at 12:00PM at University Church, 1456 E. Summit St. Kent, OH 44240.  Interment will follow at Standing Rock Cemetery.  Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:00AM-12:00PM on SATURDAY at the church.
