Margaret F. "Peg" (Fellmer) Soule

August 5, 1923 — December 14, 2022

Kent

Margaret F. “Peg” Soule (nee Fellmer), 99, of Kent, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2022 surrounded by her daughter and close friends at Kentridge Senior Living.  She was born in Jersey City, NJ to Carl and Margaret (White) Fellmer.  She attended St. Dominick’s Academy in Jersey City and went on to study nursing at the Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing and New Jersey State Teacher’s College where she received her degree in 1945.  Peg spent the next 20 years as a registered nurse in many locations including Denver, Syracuse and California. She and her husband moved to Maryland, and she enrolled at the Catholic University of America where she received a Master’s degree in Library Science in 1967.  The family moved to Kent in 1968 and Peg started working at the Kent State University library in the technical services department.  She was promoted through the next 20 years and retired in 1988 as the Director of the Cataloguing Department.

Peg was an active member of St. Patrick Church for over 50 years where she served on the Parish Council, worked for 26 years as part of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) team, and was most proud of being part of the parish council committee which created the Greeter’s program in 1986.  She was a member of the Diocesan Women’s Commission, League of Women Voters, and Birthright of Portage County.  Peg was an avid reader and had many interests including attending concerts and plays, her book group, her women’s group from St. Pats, and traveling the country and the world.  She and her daughter visited Paris, Italy, Bermuda, and Ireland on several occasions to attend family weddings.  She was a feminist before it became popular and always encouraged women that they could do anything they wanted to do.  She was a kind and compassionate person who lived an informed life.  She always put others first.

She is survived by her daughter, Betsy Soule of Waltham, Massachusetts, her sister-in-law Valerie Feller of Lititz, Pennsylvania, 13 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews, her granddaughter, Diana Shi, and her devoted friend Sallie Messerly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Margaret Fellmer, her siblings Catherine Grant, Carl Fellmer and Frank Feller, and her niece Lynne Soule Maggio.
