Marian Virginia Holliday departed this earthly life peacefully and with grace at home in the presence of family on January 12, 2015.
Marian was born on April 27, 1923 in Thorpe, West Virginia to the late William and Eva Franklin. Marian was saved early in life at Mallory Baptist Church in Mallory West Virginia. She graduated in 1941 from Gary Negro High School. Marian attended West Virginia State College. It was at Gary High School that she met the love of her life Earl Buster "Doc" Holliday and they were joined in matrimony on August 31st 1943. Of this union they had one son Ronald Earl. Throughout their marriage they were devoted to each other. They were also involved in various business ventures together and in 1957 they became the proud owners of the Eldorado Club. For 48 years this club was the focal point of the South End Community in Kent, Ohio, hosting parties, weddings and a gathering place for other social and political events. The Eldorado Club was also known for good music, good food and especially for Marians special basting on the Chicken Wings. Marian was also known for her support and guidance and being a "Mom" away from home for many Kent State University College Students. In 1998 she was presented a Community Service Award from Kent State's Black Alumni Association.
Marian was known for her kindness, compassion and loyalty to her family and friends. Marian was preceded in passing by her husband Earl Buster "Doc" Holliday, brothers H.L. Franklin, Bill Franklin and sister Eliza Moore; Sister-in- laws Lois Revels, Valdoris Suddith, Helen Edwards and Loretta Holliday; Brother- in- laws Eugene Holliday and Charles Edwards.
She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her son Ronald of Kent, Ohio and her" Golden Boy" grandson Ryan of Columbus, Ohio; Nieces Patricia Leigh and Kim Revels of Cleveland, Ohio, Marie Freeman of Union Hall, Virginia and Beatrice Minor of Columbus, Ohio; Nephews, Charles Edwards, Union Hall, Virginia, Donald Revels, Anthony Revels and Alverado Jones all of Cleveland, Ohio and special friends, Debbie Mitchell, Fran and Marlene Dorsey.
The Family would like express our extreme gratitude to Robinson Visiting Nurse and Hospice and the many friends and neighbors who supported us during our time of need.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 24 at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour before the services.
