Marie Thompson Pfouts

Marie Thompson Pfouts, 98, of Kent, died peacefully at KentRidge at Golden Pond, Friday March 22nd with her children and grandchildren by her side. She was born December 2, 1914, in Hamilton, OH to Andrew and Matilda (Eisner) Schaub.

Marie and her sisters learned the art of glass blowing from their stepfather, Henry Myers. A talented glass blower, Marie did demonstrations at department stores, the 1934 Chicago World's Fair, and Monterrey, Mexico.

She married Edward Thompson in 1934 and was a Kent resident for 29 years. Together they continued their glass blowing at fairs throughout the Midwest. Following the death of Edward in 1962, she married Paul Pfouts of Chagrin Falls. Paul owned Arrowhead Nursery and Gift Shop in Chagrin Falls, which was a perfect fit for Marie's artistic interests.

Following Paul's death in 1982, Marie returned to the Kent area to be near her daughters. She continued working in the outdoors, planting and maintaining her flower gardens, as well as sewing and reading. She was also a volunteer for the Red Cross.

Marie is survived by her children, Carol (Jim) Noble of Kent, Judy (Mike) Bonanno of Sagamore Hills, step-children Dennis (Donna) Pfouts of Bainbridge Twp, Barry (Joann) Pfouts of Portland, ME, Arden Brady of Silver Springs, MD, and Judy Ault of Troy; grandchildren, Laura (Jeff) Bulgrin, Mark (Susanne) Noble, Lynn (Patrick) Dean, Anthony (Lisa) Bonanno, Matthew (Cathy) Bonanno, and Paul Bonanno and many step-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Howson of Mayfield Hts; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Paul Pfouts; first husband, Edward Thompson; sisters, Martha Corlew and Edna Maple.

Calling hours will be 5-8 pm on Tuesday, March 26th, at Bissler Funeral Home in Kent, where funeral services will be held 11 am, Wednesday, March 27th. Burial will be held at Standing Rock Cemetery.
