Denny Baughman, 88, passed away on July 29th after a long illness.
He was born in Brimfield, Ohio, on July 24, 1926 to Mark Henry Baughman and Hannah Mae (Johnson) Baughman.
He lived almost his entire life in Brimfield.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, honorably discharged in 1946.
Denny received his Bachelor of Science from Kent State University in 1950 and his Master of Science from The Ohio State University in 1952.
He spent most of his working career at Kent State University, retiring in 1989 with 26 years of service.
Denny enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, his family and enjoyed a notable local career as an amateur golfer. He won the club championships at Sunny Hills Golf Course more than 13 times between 1949 and 1969, Maplecrest Golf Course, Breathnach Country Club, and Seniors Champion at Raccoon Hills GC in 1999 & 2000. He also was the Portage County Amateur champion in 1961, PCA Senior Champion in 1976 and '83, Super Senior Champion in 1991, and the Ohio Public Golf Association Senior Champion in 1999.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 66 years, Joanne I. (Gillis) Baughman - whom he met when they were six years old and were inseparable for the next 82 years. He also is survived by: sons Richard E. and wife Debbie, Byron D., and Scott C. and his wife Jaime; daughter Marsha M. and husband Del Bichler; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Denny was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Mae (Souers) and Jean (Jenkins).
Internment in Restland Cemetery in Brimfield has already occurred.
At the family's request, there will be no services or calling hours.
A celebration of Denny's life will take place at a later date for family and friends.
