Mary Ann Barreiro

September 1, 1923 — September 3, 2015

Mary Ann Belmonte Barreiro of Kent went home to the Lord Thursday, September 3, 2015. She died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. She was born September 1, 1923 in Kent, Ohio to parents Luigi "Louis" and Serafina "Sarah" (Schipani) Belmonte.

She was a loving, beautiful person who was always very giving and caring, devoted to her family. She always had a smile for you and a genuine interest in your life. She brought so much to so many lives in her 92 years, and she will be sadly missed. She demonstrated her strong faith and values, not only in raising her daughters, but in caring for many nieces and nephews.

With the help of her Italian parents who lived with her, she had a large vegetable garden and kept Italian traditions of baking bread for all of the families, making Easter cuzzupi anise bread, canned peppers and tomatoes.

After graduating from Kent Roosevelt High School, she worked at Hoards Drug Store and managed a Kent Dry Cleaners. She met her husband, Manuel, who was attending Kent State University, and they were married October 27, 1948.

She is survived by daughters, Linda Carmen Bouchonville and Donna Jean (Cal) Herrick; grandson, Matthew Myung Sub Herrick; great-grandsons, Trevor Clay Bouchonville Brown, Dorian Phelan Brown, and Andrew Joshua Brown; sisters, Edith Valenti and Clara Dennis; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by children-baby, Mary Jean, babies (twins), Rose Marie and Ralph Anthony; husband, Manuel Ramos Barreiro Jr.; her parents; granddaughter, Nicole Marie Bouchonville Brown; sisters, Philomena "Fannie" Jackson and Donna Jean Long; and brothers - baby Tony Belmonte and James Belmonte.

Calling hours are from 9:30 to 10:30AM on Wednesday, September 16 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 313 North Depeyster St., Kent with a Mass celebrating her resurrection immediately following at 10:30AM. No graveside burial service at this time. Please join us afterwards in the basement church hall for food and fellowship.
