Mary Alice Bolotin

September 11, 1927 — February 15, 2020

Mary Alice Bolotin passed away peacefully on February 15, 2020, surrounded by her loving family, after a protracted battle with dementia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fredric Bolotin, and her mother and father, James and Alice Stewart. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Donald and Susan Stewart, sons Scott, Todd, and Kurt Bolotin, as well as her daughters-in-law Lisa Bolotin and Lisa Horwitz and her grandchildren Rachel and Kayla Bolotin and Dylan and Ava Martz.

Mary Alice came from the village of Salem, New York. An accomplished scholar, she attended Westminster College in Western Pennsylvania and earned a Masters degree at Case Western Reserve University. Also a dedicated caregiver, she worked as a teacher and counselor in the Cleveland school system before staying home to raise her children. When her own children were older she returned to college and earned a Bachelors of Science in nursing. She spent several years working as a nurse in an extended care facility.

Mary Alice enjoyed a wide variety of sports. She was a synchronized swimmer in college and an avid golfer and tennis player into her late seventies. She was a voracious reader who loved to travel. Bridge was one of her passions and many of her closest friends were fellow bridge players. She was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Kent, serving on many committees. When death took her husband, she channeled her energy into volunteer work, serving multiple community organizations and charities.

In 2007, she suffered a stroke but remained in her own home for several years, eventually moving to assisted living. She was well cared for first at KentRidge and then Hudson Grande. She maintained her sense of humor until the very end of her life.

Memorial services will be held during the 4th week of June.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the charity of your choice. She loved well and was well loved. She will be deeply missed.
