After a courageous battle with lung and brain cancer, Mary Ann went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 25. She will be welcomed with open arms by her mom, Cecilia Gambaccini. Mary Ann will be deeply missed by her husband and best friend, Tim, the daughter she always wanted, Tammy (Mike) Garro, and grandson, Grant, "the joy of her life." She also loved her father, Corado Gambaccini, sisters, Gloria (Dan) Tronge, Diane Dean, Sandy (Gary) Benshoff, and brother, Tom (Jane) Gambaccini. Her life was filled with happy times with her nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and the Ray family. She was lucky to be blessed with many wonderful friends.
May Ann taught children with special needs and made a difference in many lives. She was an avid gardener and her yard is a beautiful place to sit and visit. Mary Ann and Tim loved to bike ride. They went on discovery trips and often took their grandson with them. On snowy days, you could find her putting jigsaw puzzles together or packing their bags to stay at their home in Florida. She loved the beach. May Ann loved golden retrievers, especially her girl Maddie, and soon became involved with GRIN. She was famous for her fun trips to wineries and organizing Longaberger bus trips. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Special Olympics Florida-Collier County, 5450 YMCA Road, Naples, FL 34109. Please mention Mary Ann Ray's name so donations go directly to her grandson's autism group. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Kent and would appreciate donations to her church or the Portage County APL.
Our family would like to thank The Gables of KentRidge, Harbor Light Hospice, and Father Pentello. Their gentle and loving care of Mary Ann brought us comfort and peace.
Calling hours are 4-7 PM on Monday, August 31st at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent. The funeral mass will be at St. Patrick's Church at 10 AM on Tuesday, September 1st, and burial will be at Standing Rock Cemetery. You are welcome to join the family for a luncheon after the burial at the church.
