Michael V. Sepi, a lifelong resident of Kent, passed away at his home on Monday, February 29, 2016 at the age of 89. Born on December 23, 1926 to Frank and Fanny (Apicello) Sepi, he is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy (Smith); daughter, Diane (Tom) Trautman of Kent; sons, Michael (Beci) of Cincinnati and Rick (Karen) of Kent; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild; and sisters, Marie Shanley of Kent and Caroline Shanley of Indiana, Pa. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Danny Sepi; and his sister, Dolly Waller.
A veteran of the United States Army, Mike served in both the Ohio National Guard and Active Army. He served in the European Theater during World War II earning the Army Occupation Medal as well as the World War II Victory Medal. Mike was a life member of both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Kent.
After returning home from the Army, he worked for Davey Compressor until its closing. In 1977, he joined the City of Kent in the Engineering Division as an Inspector then moving to Assignment Supervisor in the Central Maintenance Division in 1984. During that time, Mike was instrumental in replacing the old hard to read concrete street signs, establishing the City's own Sign Shop and initiated the Leaf Pick-up Program for the city of Kent. He became Service Director for the City of Kent in 1993 and held that position until his retirement in 1996. Mike loved serving the people of Kent.
Mike was a member of Saint Patrick's Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and an Altar Server for both regular services and Funeral Services. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was Grand Knight for four years. He was a member of the Kent Lions, where he served as King Lion and received the Melvin Jones Award (the highest award presented to a member).
Visitation will be at the Bissler & Sons Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 2nd from 1:00 - 3:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Kent at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 3rd. Burial will be at Standing Rock Cemetery following mass service. The Knights Of Columbus-Council 1411 and Kent Lions Club will conduct services at 5:45 PM Wednesday.
